Vietnam forestry exports approximately 17 billion USD in 2022

The Vietnam Administration of Forestry has reported that forestry exports for this year are projected to be more than 16.9 billion USD, indicating a 6.1% increase from the previous year.

According to the Vietnam Administration of Forestry, the total value of forestry exports for the year includes approximately 15.85 billion USD worth of timber and wood products, which has increased by 7%, and 1.1 billion USD worth of non-timber products, which has decreased by 1.3%. On the other hand, timber and wood product imports have increased by 4.1% to 2.82 billion USD. As a result, there has been a trade surplus of 14.1 billion USD, a 6.5% increase from the previous year.

Despite market fluctuations due to various factors such as the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the COVID-19 pandemic, the forestry export industry has remained on an upward trend. This is attributed to the efforts of the Government, ministries, sectors, and businesses in overcoming difficulties, as mentioned by Deputy General Director Bui Chinh Nghia at the administration’s conference in Hanoi on December 30. The main markets for Vietnamese forestry products are the US, Japan, China, the EU, and the Republic of Korea, which have purchased over 90% of the total value of forestry exports.

The sector aims to achieve 17.5 billion USD worth of forestry exports, a growth rate of 5-5.5% in forestry production value, and to maintain forest coverage at 42% for the year 2023, as stated by Mr. Bui Chinh Nghia.
