Initial data from the General Department of Customs reveals that in November 2023, Vietnam’s imports of ash wood amounted to 38.8 thousand cubic meters, valued at USD 9.9 million. This represents a substantial surge, with a 42.6% increase in volume and a 40.3% increase in value compared to October 2023. Nevertheless, when juxtaposed with November 2022, there was a slight contraction, evidenced by a 5.0% decrease in volume and a 12.0% decrease in value.
Over the initial 11 months of 2023, the aggregate imports of ash wood amounted to 459.2 thousand cubic meters, with a corresponding value of USD 117.9 million. This cumulative data indicates a 2.7% rise in volume; however, there was a marginal 0.6% decline in value when contrasted with the analogous period in 2022.
Specifically, imports of ash wood from the most prominent EU market constituted 96.4% of the overall imports during the initial 10 months of 2023, amounting to 416.1 thousand cubic meters and valued at USD 105 million. This signifies a notable surge, with a 7.6% increase in volume and a 6.7% increase in value when juxtaposed with the corresponding period in 2022.
In particular, there was a notable rise in imports from specific markets during the initial 10 months of 2023. Volumes increased by 6.6% from the Belgian market, 9.6% from the French market, 14.7% from the German market, and 21.5% from the Dutch market compared to the same period in 2022. However, imports from the US market painted a different picture, amounting to 7.9 thousand cubic meters, valued at USD 3.7 million. This reflected an 11.8% decrease in volume and a substantial 35.6% decrease in value when compared to the corresponding period in 2022.
Moreover, there was a notable decrease in imports from the UK during the initial 10 months of 2023, registering a decline of 36.9% in volume and 41.6% in value compared to the corresponding period in 2022.
