This newsletter summarizes the requirements of the EU Forest Law Enforcement Regulations (EUDR) for industry associations and export businesses in Vietnam. Some of the key provisions of the EUDR that Vietnamese export businesses in the three mentioned product categories need to meet when exporting to the EU include:
- Supply Chain Risk Management: Companies are required to gather information, assess risks, and implement risk mitigation measures within their supply chains. In addition to product and manufacturer information, the EUDR mandates that businesses provide geographic coordinates of the production plots related to the batches and provide evidence that their production activities do not contribute to deforestation in these areas.
- Risk Classification for the Country (Region) of Production: The countries or regions where goods are produced and exported to the EU will be evaluated and classified by the EU regarding their risk of deforestation, categorized as high, standard, or low risk. Products originating from countries/regions classified as higher risk will face stricter controls upon importation into the EU, and vice versa.
