Wood Exports Increased Slightly for Two Consecutive Months, Businesses Received Orders for The End of The Year

According to the Import and Export Department, the export of wood and wood products in the first 7 months of the year is not higher than the same period in 2022, but the consecutive increase in June and July shows that the wood industry is showing signs of recovery.

According to a report by the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) in July, the export of wood and wood products reached 1.1 billion USD, up 3% compared to June but down 15% compared to July 2022. In which, the export value of wood products reached 747 million USD, down slightly compared to June and down 13% compared to July 2022.

Generally, in the first 7 months of this year, the export of wood and wood products reached US$7.2 billion, down 26% over the same period in 2022. In which, the export value of wood products reached US$4.9 billion, down 30% over the same period in 2022 due to the main markets being heavily affected by inflation, consumers give preference to essential products over wooden furniture.

 

In fact, exports of wood and wood products are not higher than in the same period in 2022, but the consecutive increase in June and July shows that the wood industry is showing signs of recovery.

According to the Import-Export Department, a number of enterprises in the wood industry have begun to receive orders again, serving the year-end furniture shopping season of the world market, which is a positive signal for the wood industry. .

Commenting on the prospects of the wood industry in the last 5 months of the year, Mr. Do Xuan Lap, Chairman of the Vietnam Timber and Forest Products Association (Viforest) said that he has seen signs of economic recovery in the US, the main market of Vietnam. accounting for more than 50% of export turnover of wood industry.

Specifically, data from the US Department of Commerce (DOC) shows that GDP growth (3rd adjusted data) is 2%, up from 1.3% announced in May and higher than 0.3%. compared with analysts’ forecasts. New data has contributed to making the US economic picture at the beginning of the year more positive.

In addition, in mid-July, the DOC announced a preliminary decision on an anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigation against Vietnamese hardwood plywood products exported to this market. Therefore, the President of Viforest forecasts that the ability of these products to be exported to the US market will grow again.

Positive signals have appeared, however, the wood industry still faces obstacles such as pressure on trade remedies investigation; The high cost of materials and input materials also affects the competitiveness of exported wood and wood products in the coming time.
